Hello!
I will be visiting Istanbul with my wife towards the end of December and we are very excited!
My question to the Pentax community in Istanbul, is what lenses would be most useful? I have a 15mm, 35mm, 43mm, 70mm, is what I'm thinking to bring. I might get a 21mm to bring instead of the 35mm. I'm a little afraid that the 15mm might be a little slow for indoor places like the grand bazaar and various mosques and cistern? I'm using a K5...
Also, I might be selling my Tamron 28 - 75mm, anyone interested if I bring it over? :p

Firstly Welcome to TURKEY.
ı think you will bring a wide-angle lens and a zoom lens (max 300mm). Expecially you will take landscape and architectural.they are adequate.

I have to say it is nice to see you are contacting us from abroad. =)
In Kapalicarsi and places like this, you should use wide angle lenses for example 15mm or 21mm. I think that 70mm is too narrow for a touristic trip. As far as i know you have a 43mm, it may be a good option but i strongly recommend 15mm or 21mm.
By the way, if i have been to Istanbul at the end of December, i will be glad to drink Turkish Coffee with you. However, i would like to share your photographs which will be taken in Istanbul. =))
Lastly, i hope you can find a customer for your 28-75.

Welcome to the istanbul. Where are you from ? İstanbul really so fascinating town. Be sure that you will be excited ! İt is better to bring 15mm lenses so İstanbul so crowded you can take nice photos. By the way i need Pentax 50-135mm or Tamron 70-200mm lenses how much cost? İf its proper my budget i want to buy ! :)
Actually i dont have any idea weather someone intrested in tamron 28-75mm or not ! :)

I will definitely bring the 15 then, and I hadn't considered a longer zoom, but now that you mention it, I would come in handy. Also, since there is so much rain in December, i'm looking into getting a 18-55mm WR. Or do you think I can do without?
Sure! Would be interesting meeting up for coffee. Is there a big pentax community there? or small like here...
I'm from Toronto, Canada. Prices here for the lenses you ask:
50-135mm - roughly $850 CAD for a used one (~1600TL I think?)
Tamron 70-200 - roughly $1000 CAD for a new one (~1800TL I think?)
Hope that gives you an idea. Prices here are generally a little higher than the US
I must say, thanks to google translate, i'm able to post on this great forum! I hope my Turkish is a little better by the time I visit

Actually, i think that zoom lenses are more useful but with your high quality lenses, Istanbul will be much more beatiful. :))
In december, istanbul should be rainy and a little bit windy. I guess it won't be too cold.
Pentax Community in Turkey is not a big organisation unfortunately. However, we have a friendly atmosphere.
What would we do without Google Translate? :))

Wow, haven't checked this forum in a while. As time draws closer to our departure date, we are getting more excited! I am probably going to start looking through the marketplace here to see if there is an 18-55mm WR for sale as I'd like to pick that up. I understand when we visit (end of December), it will be the most rainy part of the year. I wouldn't want to miss any shots because of a little water!
Maybe when we're in Istanbul, if you guys have a meet, we'd love to join you. Would love to see the Istanbul that the local photographers see.

I think there will be rainfall during that period. WR lenses are of course create a speciality. Limited series lenses also gives a lot of pleasure. By the way, you told your arrival date, unfortunately, i won’t be in Istanbul most likely at that time. However, i will notify you if there is an event at that times.
